So as some of you may know my friend and I ran in the Ogden half marathon in May and we have been training for the Top of Utah Marathon. In all we have been training about 7 months and have literally ran hundreds and hundreds of miles. We both have had some minor injuries... (pulled muscles etc..) Well a couple of weeks ago we were out running and right when we started running my ankle was really hurting. I kept running on it though thinking that it would warm up and be fine. Well I continued to run on it a few days that week and then ran our 14 mile run that weekend. Then the first few days of the next week I rested because my ankle was progressively feeling worse and worse every day. I was feeling nervous because there was no particular injury that had caused the pain, and I had a stress fracture in my knee last year after I started running a few months after I had the boys, and this is exactly how the pain started. I decided I needed to go in and have it looked at. I went to an orthopedic doctor... and right away he said he was 90% sure that it was a stress fracture because of the location and also the way the pain came about. The next day I went in for an MRI and then Last Tuesday I went in for the follow up appt. Bad news... it is definitely a stress fracture. Worse news... it is in a bad location and if I keep running or even keep doing too much on it, it could "disconnect" I think he said, and I would have to have surgery and would probably develop arthritis. So he said, "I can cast it right now.... or if you will really wear a boot, I will prescribe one for you." This was a shocker because when I had the stress fracture in my knee all I had to do was quit running and it healed just fine. I quickly refused the hard cast and told him that I would unhappily wear a boot for the next 6 weeks. The other news is that this is my 3rd stress fracture... the other was in my back my freshman year of high school. So... he wants me to take a bone density test to see if there is some sort of problem. The outcomes could be, nothing at all, beginning stages of osteoporosis, or osteoporosis. I couldn't believe that I mean... I am 23!! I haven't went in for the test yet, but hopefully I won't have to be on Boniva for the rest of my life!! Anyways, after about a week of minor depression I have accepted that I am not running in the Marathon next weekend. I do wish this injury could have presented itself about 3 weeks later, but maybe my bones just aren't cut out for 26.2 miles! I really am missing running, and working towards a major goal. I am also missing all the time I spent with Jen! A lot of people don't like to talk while they run, but we always talk for the entire run... which sometimes would be enough time to watch a few movies!! Anyways she is still running the marathon next week and I am going to go watch her finish and wish that I was there running with her!! How is that for a downer post??

Wow that is a downer post. I am so sorry! I hope your ankle gets better soon. I just started running a few weeks ago and 26.2 miles is sounding impossible, actually it has always sounded impossible, so kudos to you!
